The first burial was that of Hannah Walker on 15 vi 1803 and the last, this writers great grandfather Benjamin Walker on 28 i 1891. There are seven gravestones at Darley, far fewer than the 64 recorded burials. Originally it wasn't an accepted practice for the Society of Friends to mark graves with permanent memorials. The reasons were both for simplicity and also to avoid any distinction between rich and poor. By 1860 this practice was reviewed and a common stone shape and wording was agreed upon. In 2002 these memorial stones were moved to the Dacre Quaker Burial Ground following the sale of the site for private development.
