Richard L. Walker was born in Cronton, Westchester, New York, U. S. A. on 2 Aug. 1837, the 7th child of Robert J. Walker (1795) and the 2nd child of his 2nd wife, Hannah Lawrence.

On 17 June, 1863 Richard married Mary Underhill at Cronton Point, New York. Mary was a daughter of William Alexander and Abigail (nee Wood) Underhill of Cronton. She was the youngest of five children, born 12 Aug. 1842.

Richard and Mary had 3 children. It is assumed that they were both born in Cronton, New York.

The CR for 1870 shows Richard Walker age 28 , his wife Mary Walker age 33 and a son William age 6 living with William 64 and wife Abby 57 Underhill at Courthandtown, Westchester, NY.

The CR for 3rd July 1900 at Westchester, New York shows Henry Underhill widow age 59, machinist with children Alice 31, Harry 24, Joshua 30 cousin & machinist, Lucy 28 cousin and Richard Walker widow born 1839, brother-in-law.
