The original picture of Joseph (1836) Walker and his wife Hillah Julia Robbins, known as “Julia” was located in the home of Donald Findlay in London, England. In 1995 this writer visited Donald and took this photograph of the picture.

Joseph Walker was born in New York City in the State of New York in the United States of America on 23 Jan. 1836, the 3rd child of Joseph (1798) and Sarah (born Thompson) Walker.

On 3 June, 1857 Joseph married Hilah Julia Robbins (known as Julia) presumably in New York. “Julia” was the daughter of Elisha and Hilah Robbins of New York Y ity, NY.

From the CR of 9th July 1860 we see that Joseph Walker age 22 years is a Banker ( estate of $20,000) his wife Julia Hilah Walker age 20 and Joseph Walker Jn age 1 month are living at 2nd District, 21st Ward NY, NY. With Elisha (68) a Merchant ($30,000) born in Connecticut and Hilah (46) Robbins born New York. Most other occupants of the street were either bankers, merchants or stockbrokers.

They had 2 sons, both born in New York:-

The CR of 8th July 1870 shows Elisha , 78 as a “retired merchant” , Ida Robbins 60 “keeping house” with Joseph still as a banker , Julia 28 “at home” , Joseph 11 and Elisha age 7. All at the same address as in 1860.

According to the June 9th 1880 Census of New York (Manhattan) Joseph, at age 22, had been to college and both boys were living with their mother Hilah 42 and father Joseph stockbroker age 43 in the home of Hilah Robbins.
