This is a true copy of the Will of Robert Walker (1755-1820) of Darley in the Parish of Hampsthwaite in the County of York, England

To All Those Whome This May Concern.

I Robert Walker of Darley in the Parish of Hampsthwaite and County of York Shopkeeper and Linen Weaver being of sound mind, memory and understanding do make Publish and declare this to be My Last and Testament in manner and form following. First I will that all my just Debts and Funeral Exspences be paide by my Sons, Joseph Walker & Benjamin Walker whom I appoint My Executers in trust in this my Will. I give and Bequeath unto my Dear wife Rachel Walker twenty Pounds of lawful monney to be paide to her in one Calendar Month after My Deceace. I give and Bequeath unto my Dear Wife afforesaid all My House Hold furniture as they now stand in My Low Parlers and The Chambers and Garet over the same and in the new Chamber or Back Room, over the Sellor. and I Will that she, my Deare Wife have power to disspose of them as she may think best.

I give and bequeath unto my Deare Wife Rachel Walker for and during the term of her natueral life all the afforesaid four rooms with an unmolested road to them through My dwelling House. I give and Bequeath unto My Deare Wife Rachel Walker for and during the Term of her Natural Life Sixteen pounds in the yeare of good and Lawfull money to be paid to her Eight pounds every half year and for nonpayment I Will that she My Dear Wife do Lease and Hould my Estate of land laying situated in Menwith-With-Darley parish of Hampsthwaite and County afforesaid until all the afforsaide Leggace be fully paid up with all exspences that may attend the same.

I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Walker for and during the term of her natural life eight pounds in the year of good and lawful money to be paide to Her in two Eaquel payments four pounds every half year, the first payment to be due in six Calendar months after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Walker her bed she sleeps on with Bed Stocks, with Blankets, Sheets, Bolsters, Curtains and quilt there unto Belonging. And I do hereby charge my Estate of land with the payment of my Daughter Sarah Walker’s Leggacy.

I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Walker his heairs or assigns for ever all my Cattel Gate or Beast Gate laying situated in that undevided Track of land called last pastor in the Township of Dacre with Buerly, in the parish of Ripon and County of York I also give and bequeath unto my Joseph Walker five pounds of lawful monney to be paid unto him in twelve Calander Months after my Decease

I give and Bequeath unto My Daughter Mary Walker Fifty pounds of lawfull monny. I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Walker Fifty pounds of lawfull monny. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Walker Fifty pounds of lawful monny. I give and bequeath unto my Son John Walker Twenty pounds of lawful monny. I give and bequeath unto my Son Samuel Walker Fifty pounds of lawful monny. I give and bequeath unto my Son Spence Walker Fifty pounds of lawful money.

The afforesaide leggacys I Will My Executers do pay or cause to be paide in twelve Calander months after my deceace or to My two youngest Sons Sameul and Spence as they arrive at the age of twenty one years and in twelve Calander Months after the decease of my deare Wife Rachel Walker. Then I Will that My Executors do pay or cause to be paid unto my afforesaid sons and daughters as Heare-in directed. That is to say, to my Daughters Mary Walker one hundred pounds of lawful Monney. To my daughter Elizabeth Walker one hundred pounds of lawful Monney. To my Son John Walker fifty pounds of lawful Monney. To my son Thomas Walker one hundred pounds of lawful Monney. To my Son Sameul Walker one hundred pounds of lawful Monney. To my son Spence Walker one hundred pounds of lawful Monney. Should others of my sons Sameul or Spence happen to die before they attain the age of Twenty One years and leave no lawfull Issue then I Will such shares or shares go equally to and amongst My surviving Sons and Daughters.

I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Walker her bed whereon she now sleeps with Bedstocks, Hangings, Blankets, Bolsters and sheets and quilts there unto belonging which stands in chambers over my Dwelling House. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Walker one fethered Bed with Bolster, Sheets, blankets and quilt there unto belonging. And I will My Executors do pay the exspences there will arise about their Brothers clothing during the remaining time of their Apprentisship, and I Will My Executors do pay the Exspences that will arise about their Mother’s Funeral.

I give and bequeath unto my Son Benjamin Walker, his Heairs and assigns for ever whome I appoint My Sole Executer in this My Last Will. All My Estate of land laying situated in Darley in the Township of Menwith-with-Darley Parish of Hampsthwaite and County of York with all Herediffaments and apporamties. Theare unto belonging with all My live Stock and stock in Trade, and Manufactoring uttensels and farming uttensels with all my Book Debts, Bills, Bonds, Debts Dues and Demands with all My Household Furneture whatsoever not before dissposed of and I do Heareby make and appoint My Son Benjamin Walker in this My last Will and Testament Revoaking all former Wills by Me Heretofore made as Wittness Heare of I do hereunto Set my Hand and Seal This Nineteenth Day of Ninth Month called September in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty.

and Declared in the Presence of us and to be in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as wittness hear unto the day and year above to wittness.
