A letter from Robert Walker of Darley to Joseph Walker, his son in America. 1815

Darley 6th Month 12th 1815.
Deare Son I Last Sixth day Received Thy Letter at Otley and thought it long in Coming my way(.) in reply to thy request concerning the Value of the Land I think it should not be bought for much more than four thousand guineas(.) in its presant state will pay poor interest but land continues very high. Should like thee to come as soone as thou can(.) J Wilks told mee on Sixth Day he must sell it to sombodey and I think it is a Disiarable country sittuation (J Wilks) would like answer on sixth Day (we are) all in our usual state of Health (Thy mother) joins me in Dear love to tho thy (Uncle &) cousins and Remaine Thyine Affectinly Robert Walker

The "J. Wilks Estate" contained Walker House, Walker Farm and about 56 acres of land was bought by Joseph Walker. Later left to his brother Thomas Walker in 1835.
