Robert Walker and Hannah Hopkins marriage record, 1753

This is typescript copy of the Marriage Record of Robert Walker (1717) and Hannah Hopkins (1720)

which took place at Liversedge, in the County of York on 31 Oct. 1753.

Whereas Robert Walker of Sunnybank in Batley in the County of York, Clothier, and Hannah Hopkins of Thornhill Briggs in Hipperholme-with-Brighouse in the said County Single Woman have declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public Meetings of the people called Quakers unto which they do belong according to the good Order used among them. Whose Proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof clear from all others and having consent of Parents and Relations concerned, were approved of by the said Meetings.

Now These are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions. This Thirty first Day of the Tenth Month called October in the year of our Lord according to the British Account One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Three. They the said Robert Walker and Hannah Hopkins appeared in a publick assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together in their Public Meeting House at Liversedge in the County aforesaid, and then and there in a solemn manner he the said Robert Walker taking the said Hannah Hopkins by the hand did openly declare as follows Viz. Friends in the fear of God and in the presence of this Assembly I take thee my Friend Hannah Hopkins to be my Wife promising through Divine assistance to be unto her a faithfull and loving Husband until Death, or words to this effect.

And then and there in the same Assembly the said Hannah Hopkins did in like manner declare as follows, or words to this effect, Viz. Friends in the fear of God and in the presence of this Assembly I take this my Friend Robert Walker to be my Husband promising through Divine assistance to be unto him a loving and obedient Wife until Death, or words to that effect.

And the said Robert Walker and Hannah Hopkins now after the Law and custom of Marriage Hannah Walker as a further confirmation and for the ratifying the said Marriage did then and there to these present set their hands.

And we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present amongst Others at the solemnizing the said Marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as Witnesses thereunto have also to these present subscribed our names the day and year above.
